About Me

BIO

************************************************************ ***********
Coach Cotton, Williebob, and Boogie Woogie Bennie are Rocknoceros (pronounced like rhinoceros), the Washington, DC area's award-winning band that makes very cool music for children of all ages. They write terrific songs that teach even the youngest music fans, and perhaps most importantly, they are flat-out fun!
Rocknoceros formed in the summer of 2005 and has released two celebrated CDs, both of which won Children's Recording of the Year from the Washington Area Music Association. Their current release, "Dark Side of the Moon Bounce", which holds the unofficial prize for most clever album title ever, "more than earns it's album title pun," according to Stefan Shepherd of the hip kids music blog Zooglobble. Stefan continues, "This is kids' music expertly done...definitely recommended." Rocknoceros has sold 7,000+ CDs in their short history - quite a feat for such a young band with no record label.
Rocknoceros has played several hundred concerts since their formation, often playing as many as twenty-five shows monthly. It all started by doing weekly shows at Jammin' Java, an acclaimed club just outside of Washington, DC. The band quickly rose to the top of the of the heap of Jammin' Java's Tot Rock concert series, and the large crowds followed. Rocknoceros now routinely fills Jammin' Java to capacity on a weekly basis, and is managed by the club's owner and booking manager, Daniel Brindley. Some other notable past and future shows for Rocknoceros include headlining the Wolf Trap Theatre-in-the-Woods, The Smithsonian Discovery Theater, World Cafe Live, and Rams Head Tavern.
Rocknoceros is also a good friend of XMKiDS on XM Radio. The band gets steady airplay, participated in the XMKiD Traveling Road Show, and has recorded two Rumpus Room in-studio performances. On top of all this, the band has been featured in The Washington Times, Washingtonian Magazine, and Northern Virginia Magazine.
These three inseparable childhood friends are now rock stars of the 'kindie-rock' scene, and they're as entertained by their fans as their fans are by them. Rocknoceros rocks!

Here is what Robbie Schaefer, XMKiDS On-Air Personality on XM Radio says about Rocknoceros:

"These guys give kids the credit they deserve. No dumbing-down here. They play real music with cool instruments and deliver a live show that is fun, interactive, and polished. Plus, the staff at XMKiDS unanimously agrees that &8220;"Dark Side of the Moonbounce"&8221; is far and away the best kid'&8217;s album title of 2007. Rocknoceros Rocks! Pinky-swear."
Here's what Lucretia Anderson, the Theater Coordinator for the Smithsonian Discovery Theater says:
"Rocknoceros' blend of infectious and catchy educational tunes were perfect for the Smithsonian's youngest fans. It's rare to find a group of talented, professional musicians who can turn learning into such a fun, toe-tapping experience. We can't wait to have them back!"

I'm in the studio right now. Boogie is warming up on the marimba, Williebob's setting up the recording gear, and I'm typing some last minutes thoughts before trying to sing the TRAIN SONG for the PIN...

Big day at the pool today. Again! The boys swam like fish, LBJ went off the diving board many times and actually DOVE off the diving board, and LB learned how to do an 'egg roll' or 'watermelon' off...

Today was nearly perfect. Mrs. Coach stayed home from work today because she has mono and is trying to recover sooner rather than later. The upside is that I was able to sleep in, and relished getti...

Today, while in the playroom, LBJ said, "Daddy, where is something for Picachu to fly in." I said, "I don't know, buddy, but here's a car and a motorcycle. Why don't you put him in there." To which...

The other day I told LB that he needed to wear his board shirt at the pool because it was very, very sunny out, and we were headed to the pool in prime time, between the hours of 10am and 2pm. Seldom...

We read some Richard Scarry tonight before bed, which we often do. Tonight's book, though, is special because it was given to Boogie's sister on January 13, 1971. Boogie's mother handed it down to L...

LB has learned how to employ sarcasm. He's five years old, so most often the remarks come out like, "Oh, riiiiight" and little else. But his inflection and usage is right on target, and I can see bi...
