About Me

Back Home in My Mind is my fourth CD of original songs. On my previous CDs there was a wide variety of different styles of music and I could not catorgize the songs in two words. But I can do just that with this new CD.

Back Home in My Mind is roots music. There is some old country, some new country, some blues and some old-school rock and roll. And that's it. What you hear is what you get. I wanted to make this CD because I knew the right producer and the right musicians for these songs, the guys who worked on my previous CDs.

Grier Coppins produced my last two CDs. He has his own group, Taxi Chain (no relation). Someone catorgized their music as bagpipe funk. But Taxi Chain also plays blues, rhythm and blues, country and celtic folk tunes. Grier has an affinity for roots music and he has the ears and the patience to get the best sound for each song

Chris Staig played lead guitar on all my CDs. He has his own band too, the Chris Staig Band. A journalist called their music power pop. But Chris also has an encylopedic knowledge of all American music from the twentieth century. On the previous CDs, he amazed me with his ability to come up with the right guitar parts for the various styles of songs. And he amazes me for the same reasons on this CD.

Joe Burns has played bass for Taxi Chain, Mr Rick and the Biscuits and other blues bands. Sean Dignan plays drums for countless Toronto bands including Dodge Fiasco and the Shovels. Put Sean and Joe and Chris together and you got one of the best roots bands in the world (if not the best).

Some talented friends helped us out. Colleen Hodgson sings background vocals along with Chris Staig. Pete Lambert from the Kensington Hillbillies plays drums on some tracks. Jim Bish from Taxi Chain and who has also worked with Screaming Jay Hawkins and the Platters plays harmonica. Peter Jellard from the Toronto Cajun band Swamperella added some accordion.

If you like roots music, I suggest you give these songs a listen. If roots music is not your thing, why not listen anyway? It is always good to have an open mind. Anyway, I hope you enjoy the music. If you have any comments or would like to purchase a CD, you can reach me right here at Myspace. Cheers, Taxi John

Bonjour.
