Don't get twisted by the stereotype of what you think being a dope-boy means. These artists show determination, talent and drive to capture the attention of the world as they express their life experiences and struggles with tales of what being a Dope Boy really means.
Meet Reddy Baby, Lil Chris, Boss Man, 6' 8" and Sosa, the Dope Boy Mafia, a.k.a. D.B.M. More then a string of rappers laced together to make a name, D.B.M. is more like a brotherhood or a group of talented individuals who have combined their skills to create a movement representing the Midwest.
Their Mixtape, D.B.M. Vol 1, hosted by the Core DJs own DJ Skno hit the streets with a blaze. Accompanied by intense street team promotions it wasn't long before every block in the Midwest had the sounds of D.B.M. on their speakers. Live performances across the region with national recording artists like Paul Wall, Blue Davinci and Oowee, only intensified the mania confirming the rumors that D.B.M. is truly out to take over.
D.B.M. Vol. 1 is cranked with 18 tracks of Midwestern swagger, clever lyrics and head banging production. Straying from the path of your average street Mixtape, D.B.M. Vol. 1 is a 100% original compilation that showcases the passion and finesse of each artist.
Reddy Baby, is easily recognized by his raspy tone, hardcore lyrics and energetic flo. Lil Chris walks, talks and acts like the show stopper he is. Known to be the joker in the crew, he's always on the ready to hit the club, the studio or the stage.
Boss Man, the youngest of the crew, only 17 years old, shows the maturity and stage presence of a seasoned vet. 6' 8 spits lyrically with a strength that can stand up to his height and last but not least, Sosa the pretty boy of the crew, is edgy, sharp and aggressive.
D.B.M. was signed to the independent Midwest label, Grownman Records, in 2005 by owner and CEO Donta Edwards who saw talent and wanted to create an outlet for these young men. "Some may say that if the streets is all you know then the streets is all you'll ever be, but I'm trying to create a way for young black men to be successful" remarks Donta aka DBoy.
2007 looks to be a promising year as D.B.M. graces the cover of Juice Magazine, with a feature article and spread that includes a cd insert. Following this feature will be the highly anticipated release of the first D.B.M. single "Merk Out" with the debut album set to hit stores Summer 2007.
With over 50,000 units distributed throughout the Midwest, there are not many places that you can go without hearing about D.B.M. These Dope Boys are rocking the block, the clubs and soon a store near you. So when you hear about them Dope Boys, they just talking about them fly boys from the DYT.
