I'M DAPHNE!

About Me

Well, this is now the THIRD TIME that I have typed this profile, so I would have to initially state that I am either a chronic failure, a continual fool, or someone prone to small (and perfectly manageable) bits of bad luck.
Before we get into the whole "who am I, Lord?" business, p'raps you would like to check out the Woodie Thank You Speech (my moment of pride).
Just CLICK HERE!!!
I am a New York native -- though, to be honest, I was predominantly raised in Westchester. So yes, I was able to walk home whenever I wanted, ride a bike, throw rocks, trick or treat, make slingshots, rollerblade, play D&D, climb trees, play hockey, play hide and seek, kick cans, fear ticks, all that nonsense. But I went to high school in the city and my parents were both raised there, so I got a healthy dose of Schubert Alley, fake watches, keeping my wallet in my front pocket, fighting my way of trains in the Canal Street area, good Italian food, FAO Schwarz, East Side Billiards, etc.
I am a pragmatic optimist. I am rarely able to stay asleep longer than two hours straight without medication (sometimes, even with medication) which has made most romantic relationships, sharing of hotel rooms, college roommates, and crashed-on-couches generally "testy" situations with mostly negative outcomes or at least good stretches of either severe tension or extensive sympathy.
I firmly believe in the power of stories and think everyone should have a favorite book, movie, character, television program, song, what-have-you that sets up a nice little construct for his life. That being said, I'm a big fan of people who stick to male pronouns when the gender is unknown, this "he or she" business is getting me miffed.
I like words like miffed. Lately I've also been a fan of apt, avuncular, thrifty, lithe, grouse, gout, wayward and any of the "op" phases --- "pre-op," "mid-op" and, of course, "post-op."
I also believe in the power of love. Like I said in previously deleted profiles... I generally believe most Celine Dion song titles carry with them a certain bit of metaphysical power and I denounce anyone who thinks otherwise. For example "Tell Him." More or less something we should all do... though it rarely works out. Shame.
I am an insane Salinger fan. I like to think that being a member of the Glass family wouldn't have been too terrible -- except for Seymour's suicide. So, you just have to ignore that and focus on things like smoking endless cigarettes without a care in the world, getting very angry after a tennis game, taking baths, always having a well-thumbed paperback (and the time to read it). Overcoats -- probably camel hair.
I believe the answer to most of life's questions are either in CATCHER IN THE RYE or A SEPARATE PEACE and I do honestly read one a year. This year will be a Separate Peace year, as last year was a Catcher (and Franny and Zooey) year.
I like the Oscars just a smidge more than Christmas. I certainly find that time between The Golden Globes and Oscar night far more exciting than advent... but I suppose if I were in ancient Jerusalem or pre 1927 anywhere, I'd feel differently. I also realize, as I read that bit over, that the opening line of this paragraph may be just the thing getting Islamofascists so upset; then again, they're probably not that nuts about Christmas either.
I'm not one of these nuts that wants his profile jam-slammed with video, but this top one (especially) is pretty damn good. You can play these all on your own, I didn't lock you into hearing some crappy song. See, mine is the profile of choice.

so many more...
Particularly British romantic comedies of any time period that show me how blissful life and love can be while also hinging their entire plot on cornering a major character into answering a yes or no question that will basically throw off the love plot for a half an hour until they're given ample opportunity to explain themself.

Television:

Twin Peaks, The McLaughlin Group, Meet the Press, Seinfeld, 24, Nip/Tuck, My So Called, POF, 9-0, Felicity, Melrose, Smallville (until I was just too old), Dawson (until they went crazy and killed Mitch), Lost, Entourage, Deadwood (until Hearst arrived), Arrested Development, Studio 60 On the Sunset Strip, Letterman, Not Will & Grace... hmm... most of HBO... most of Showtime...
