1078 Gallery is a membership-based non-profit arts organization. It is supported in part by funding from the City of Chico, CA, fundraising events, and from member contributions.
We have recently moved closer to downtown, and with this new, bigger location in our hands, the mission of the 1078 Gallery is to continue doing what its been doing for over 25 years, provide a home in Chico where local, regional and national contemporary and experimental art can be showcased and appreciated. The new centralized location makes the gallery's efforts even more visible, and the extra space opens up opportunities for increased performing arts, multi-media and music programming.
And we really like the music. We like crazy shows. We like local bands. And we especially like connecting locals with touring bands, and to this end every music performance will include at least one local on the bill to further our commitment to nurturing a healthy and creative local scene.
We do present music performances that are open to all-ages, but we are not simply an all-ages music club. We are an art space. What this means is we treat the performing art of music with the same respect we treat all art. We will try our best to choose the most exciting, beautiful, and challenging contemporary and experimental acts for a balanced schedule of music that doesnt over saturate the scene with so many shows that prolonged success and our modest resources are compromised. The 1078 will be putting on only a handful of live music shows each month, concentrated mostly during the week/week-and-a-half dark time between visual art exhibits.
