Toshiki Nunokawa 布川俊樹

1958年7月29日東京生まれ。
高校時代にウエス.モンゴメリーを聴いてジム£ã‚ºã«ç›®è¦šã‚ã‚‹ã€‚東京工業大学在学中から様〠…なコンテストで優勝し、1981年ミッキー.カー チスのバックでプロ活動開始。85-87年マルタ. ヒット.エンド.ランに参加、その後様々なセ㠃ƒã‚·ãƒ§ãƒ³ã‚„スタジオで活動するようになる。㠁ã—て自己のグループ VALIS(ヴァリス)ã‚’85年に結成し、ファーストア ルバム「ヴァリス」(91å¹´)から2003年解散まで㠁«5枚のアルバムをリリース。ソロプロジェク トとしては、大ヒットした「ウルトラマンジ ャズ」(98å¹´)、ピーター.アースキン、マーク. ジョンソンらとLAレコーディングした「ディ㠃‘ーチャー」(99å¹´)、初のトリオアルバム「ブ ラッドトリオ」(04å¹´)など。2007年にはオルガ㠃³ã¨ã®ãƒ¦ãƒ‹ãƒƒãƒˆã«ã‚ˆã‚‹ã€ŒThe Road To Jazz Jungle」、7年ぶりの「ウルトラマンジャズラ゠¤ãƒ–」と連続リリース。最新作は10年ぶりのベ ーシスト納浩一とのコラボレーション「デュ オラマ2」(09å¹´)。また教則本、映像も多数。㠀Œã‚¸ãƒ£ã‚º.ギターの金字塔」はベストセラーだ 。2000å¹´ã‹ã‚‰ã¯æ´—è¶³å­¦åœ’å¤§å­¦ã‚¸ãƒ£ã‚ºã‚³ãƒ¼ã‚¹ã®è¬ ›å¸«ã‚‚務める。各方面から注目されているコム³ãƒ†ãƒ³ãƒãƒ©ãƒªãƒ¼ãƒ»ã‚¸ãƒ£ã‚ºãƒ»ã‚®ã‚¿ãƒªã‚¹ãƒˆã§ã‚る〠‚
Born In Tokyo, on July 29th 1958.
It was "The Beatles" that kicked off my guitar career in junior high school. Later, rock music, especially the guitar, became the most important thing in my life. I had my second shock in terms of music when I was in high school . It was from Wes Montgomery, one of the greatest jazz guitarist in my history . After my first encounter with "Jazz", I began to spend most of my time studying jazz music. During my university days ( I was majoring in social engineering at Tokyo Institute of Technology. ), I belonged to the college jazz club and I won the No.1 Prize in several jazz music contests.
In 1981, my professional music career started with Micky Curtis who had been a rock'n roll star in Japan for a long time. Then from '85 to '87, I joined Malta's band that was called Hit&Run. (Malta is a famous Japanese sax player who used to play in Lionel Hampton's big band as a concert master.) His music was kind of pop fusion. This way I did various music works - studios, jazz gigs, supporting some vocalists. Through these experiences I feel I could expand my capacity for music.
Meanwhile, I organized my own group "VALIS" in '85. VALIS' sound combines complex, advanced music quality and familiar pop melody, two elements which are seemingly contrary to each other.
In 1991, I released my first CD "VALIS". I remember that Mr. John Scofield sent his comment for my CD liner notes. After that I released "Under Construction" ('93) followed by "Ali's Dance" ('95) . These albums were given high ratings by many magazines because of their contemporary sound in the '90s.
In '99, I released my first solo album "Departure" which was recorded in L.A with Peter Erskine, Marc Johnson, Bob Berg & my good friend Hatsuho Furukawa (the keyboard player of VALIS). It was a fantastic experience for me. And in the same year, I released a collaboration album "DuoRama" with my good friend Koichi Osamu who was also a bassist of VALIS. In 2000, this duo unit had concerts in Malaysia.
In '01, VALIS released its first live album "Hieroglyph", and then in '03, I finally broke up the band and released its last album "The Last Gift" at the same time.
After VALIS, I released my first guitar trio album called "The Blood Trio" ('04) and "The Road To Jazz Jungle"('07) in which I collaborated with an organ player for the first time. The latest album is "DuoRama2" released in 2009.
Besides, I've released three "Ultlamanjazz" albums in which I arrange and play the theme songs of the TV proglam "Ultlaman" series. They have sold very well.
It is also worth noting that I have published a lot of instruction books(including CD) videos & DVDs. Espesially, "Jazz-Guitar-No-Kinjitou Vol 1,2" (In'98 & '99) made a recoad sales considering instruction goods.
Meanwhile, I've been teaching at the Senzoku Music College Jazz Course since 2000.
Anyway my music activities almost have been confined to Japan so far. But from now on, my hope is to spread them worldwide through the Internet MY SPACE ! If you are the fans of Weather report, Pat Metheny Group, Herbie Hancock, Brecker Brothers, Miles Davis, John Scofield or such kind of contemporary jazz musicians, I'm sure that you will like my music.
