Formed on christmas of 2004 in Tokyo, Swapmeet Girls have been performing at various ukulele events throughout the years. In 2006, SMGs participated in a compilation CD "MORE UKULELE CRAZY" (Hoku Hoku Records, Japan), produced by Noboru Matsumoto, with a cover version of "HEAT WAVE", the well-known 60's motown number (also known as Linda Ronstadt's version in the 70s). SMGs love playing 60s ~ 80s oldies, especially the goodies! Songs like "Mrs. Robinson", "Harvest Moon", "Jamaica Song", "One Love", "Love The One You're With", "Spinning Wheel", "Burnin' Love", "Smokin' Boogie", "Koi No Vacance", "You Can't Hurry Love", "One Love"..... and more! As well as old hawaiian tunes. They are always looking for oldies but goodies, trying to turn (=swapmeet) them into new relaxing sounds with a twist of ukulele. "Rockin' Hawaii" is the first original tune written by Yoko Girl and Hatsue Girl. "風ã®ã¨ãŠã‚Šã¿ã¡/Kaze no Torimichi (Way of the Wind) " was written by Yoko Girl, a song about her teenager days spent in Mamaroneck, NY.The Girls' original tunes are now in their first original CD "THE ORIGINALS!".
