Catune is an independent record label based in Tokyo, Japan founded by 9dw member Kensuke Saito in 2001.
The label was initially set up to release a split CD between 9dw and No Knife to help fund a Japanese tour. But since then Catune has gone from strength to strength, developing a roster of artists (both Japanese and international) and a back catalogue which has firmly established them at the forefront of the independent music scene in Japan.
While the focus has been on producing and releasing underground and alternative bands from their homeland, the label has become more and more eclectic over the years. Artists as diverse as Boris and Z have all recorded for the Catune imprint while they have also licensed deals with labels like Dischord (Medications) and Dim Mak (From Monument To Masses) for release in Japan.
The label expanded further in 2007 with the establishment of a subsidiary, Morec, whose focus is on electronic and dance music.
This trail-blazing, independent-minded spirit has helped foster a cult following for the label both at home and overseas where the Catune imprint is synonymous with music of a consistently high quality.
