「叙趣庵」　ー　尺八道場 ・出身はニューヨーク州バッファローですが 、日本に住んで10年になる。 ・国際的な尺八奏者横山勝也氏の弟子である 岡田道明氏に尺八を師事。古典本曲と呼ばれ る伝統的な禅独奏音楽を中心に勉強している が、現代曲や琴と三味線と演奏する三曲な　 ど様々な分野に挑戦。 ・大阪大学大学院にて修士号を取得し、現在 同大学院文化社会学博士課程に在籍。 ・虚無僧研究会会員 ・石川利光の「石の会」の会友。 ・2006å¹´8月から9月にかけて四国八十八ヶ所を 歩き遍路で巡り尺八を奉納演奏。　 ・奈良と関西を中心に演奏活動中。 ・2008年世界尺八フェスティバル（シドニー, オーストラリア）Ｓ－１グランプリ青年の部 　第２位。 ・2008å¹´11月「白鳳音」という独奏尺八ＣＤを リリース ・2009年に2æœˆã€€ç•¶éº»å¯ºä¸­ä¹‹åŠã‚ˆã‚Šã€Œå¥å¸«ã€ã®å ·ã‚’授与され、各伝統法会において奉納演奏㠂’許される。 ・尺八・シンセサイザー奏者の泉川秀文との ユニット『黒船』を結成し、尺八とシンセサ イザーの新作ＣＤを発表予定 ・奈良で二つの尺八教室を主宰：（全部の稽 古はご希望で日本語または英語にて行ってい ます。） ◎「當麻道場」は奈良県葛城市（近鉄南大阪 ç·š 当麻寺駅から徒歩7分）。 ◎「奈良町道場」は奈良町の「由庵」という 素敵な和風カフェの二階の和室にて。 地図などはウェブサイトを見てください：　 http://www.naracafe-youan.com/Jo Shu An - Shakuhachi Dojo　　　　 I'm from Buffalo, NY but have lived in Japan for almost 10 years now. I study the shakuhachi, a Japanese bamboo flute, under Okada Michiaki, who is a student of the famous Yokoyama Katsuya. I focus mainly on the traditional Zen solo pieces called honkyoku, but also play modern and traditional classical music with the koto and shamisen and have recently been experimenting more. The repertoire consists of the creative style of honkyoku passed down from the Zen priest Watazumi Doso as well as the Kinko style of shakuhachi. My teacher's powerful yet deep and haunting sounds drew me to this instrument, and I have found it to be the most emotionally expressive instrument around. I received my Master's from Osaka University with my graduation thesis entitled "Shaped by the Wind: Artistic and Cultural Identity Formation of Shakuhachi Players", and am continuing my research in their Doctoral program in the Cultural Sociology department. I am a member of the Komuso Kenkyukai or research group, as well as a friend of Ishikawa Toshimitsu's "Ishi no Kai". In August and September of 2006 I did the Shikoku 88 Temples Pilgrimage, playing at all of the temple's Daishi-do and the Hondo (main temple). It was a tough 1 1/2 months of hiking (1,400 kilometers) and sleeping in my tent, except when the typhoons came and I kept refuge at some of the temples, a well needed rest. It was a great experience and the people I met along the way were very interesting. That following winter I returned for a week and walked Tokushima prefecture again, my fingers were freezing playing in the cold! I hope to return in the nicer months of spring and fall someday. It's a highly recommended life changing experience. Recently I have been concentrating on performing, mostly around Nara and the Kansai area. I teach at 2 locations in Nara Prefecture. The "Taima Dojo" (Katsuragi city) is a 7 minute walk from Taimadera station on the Kintetsu Minami Osaka line. The "Nara-machi Dojo" is located in Nara city in the traditional Nara-machi area.
