Sumiko Fukatsu

Sumiko Fukatsu is flutist/composer.She lives in Japan. She started to play flute at 9 years old in orchestra. Classical music was her first career. She graduated special junior high school of music (Tokyo University of art). She had also degree of French literature at Keio University. After she got master degree of French literature, she started to play Jazz & Latin music.She traveled a lot abroad. Canada, America, Cuba, Brazil..etc.. She absorbed different culture and music. The first album "Feather in the Air" entirely consist of her original compositions. This album is very well acclaimed because of the beauty of the sound &the composition(2001). After that, she went by herself to Havana to record Cuban music with Cuban musicians. It released as "Sumiko en la Havana"(2002). Same year, she had chance to take part of Hally Allen's bossa nova album "I can see forever". This album has well saled and hit as jazz album. She released her leader album "Asa Blanca" from BMG JAPAN. After the major debut, she constantly released her album. The latest is her 7th album "Caminho do Sol"(2008) .During the time, she has performed and recorded with many famous artists: Compay Segundo, Dori Caymmi, Ron Cartar, Benny Green, Monty Alexander, Hally Allen, Bobby Carcasses, etc..Her style is good combination of beauty of melody and nice groove of Jazz & Latin, Brazilian music. People can feel her spirit of cosmopolitanism and boundless of music.
