Message to the fans: "Be nice to each other" Mako has a strong, rich voice which is deeper than most visual singers'. Like deadman's music, his style is also very versatile. But whether he's screaming like Marilyn Manson in the bowels of hell or singing about lost love in fragile falsetto, it always sounds perfect. He's also an unbelievably good live singer - not one tone too flat or sharp! He writes all the lyrics for deadman. They are usually gloomy and give the impression that he's quite an emotional person (and also religious - in his own strange way). He's as Gemini/AB as you can get... o_O In contrast to the brooding, suffering persona he assumes in his songs, during interviews he tends to laugh a lot; and although on stage he's got an overwhelming presence, off-stage he's very quiet - almost shy. It's hard to believe that the madman screaming his heart out in "Re make" is the same person who wrote those gentle, pensive poems in the book "Silent Garden". But either way he's incredibly talented and charismatic. ^^
Mako originally wanted to become an actor. (Luckily he changed his mind! ^_^) He doesn't like singing just for singing's sake - for him it's a way to express himself, the lyrics and the performance are just as important. What motivated him to sing was anger and contradictions in the world. He loves to watch movies and read a lot. The movies he's mentioned in interviews are quite versatile - "Lost Highway", "Hedwig and the Angry Inch" (what are you watching, Mako-san? XD), "Simon Birch", "Requiem for a Dream", "Memento" (a brilliant movie, I can absolutely recommend it!), and of course his favorite, "Angel Heart". As lots of other VK musicians, Mako also loves Tim Burton. He seems to be interested in books that have religious themes, such as "Dogla Magla" by Yumeno Kyuusaku (see more about this book in the "Tales" section), "Yoichi" ("Night Fair") by Tsunekawa Koutarou (review coming up soon XDDD) or "Ore to Akuma no Blues" (Me & the Blues of the Devil) a manga by Hiramoto Akira.
Unfortunately he doesn't talk as much about his musical likes as aie. (I always find it very intriguing what bands my favorite musicians listen to.) He has mentioned Manson (of course ^_^), Radiohead, Mono, and Nine Inch Nails. Deadman used NIN and Mono songs as intro during some tours. (Just an interesting side note, Trent's description by interviewers sounds just like Mako - a maniac on stage, very thoughtful and calm in real life.) *blabber mode off*
