About Me

LOUNGE JAMMING by CHINA JUMP Now Available on iTune ..To find out who CHINA JUMP is refer to www.myspace.com/mangarepublic. On this page I shall provide an overview of LOUNGE JAMMING. In between recording two "serious" blocks of compositions for 'Beijing Express' and 'Iberian Tales', I pulled Wayne Miller aside while Phil Rigger started the task of pulling 'Goya's Dream' & 'El Cordobes' into shape and said to him I needed a bit of a holiday musically from where we have just been. Having just come off arranging big tracks such as 'Three Steps Towards The Future', 'My Mother's city', 'Father's Shadow' etc I guess Wayne understood where I am coming from and was more than happy to take a cruise through the touristy end of the music spectrum. It was summer in Sydney (best time to be there) and we split the sessions into two shifts; Phil used to do nights and Wayne the days and I would drift in and out of the studio during and in between. I started to leave Phil more to himself as he had a full grasp of what was required from the first of the two Iberian Tales tracks. Wayne and I started the new regime by take things very easy whilst writing and arranging 'Drinking Claudia By The Beach' and 'Jazz Beautiful'. These two songs were inspired by the years I had spent growing up in Rio De Janeiro and to capture that breezy looseness we used to breakfast together in Rose Bay, a lovely harbour suburb of Sydney and then cabbed into the studio casually. By the time we got there Phil would play what he has done overnight to us before stumbling off home to catch some ZZZs...It was a highly unfair arrangement and Phil definitely got very pale complexion from a lack of rays during this period. Then again, from a creative point of view, the required outcome was most definitely noticeable if 'Goya's Dream' was put next to 'Jazz Beautiful', anyone will be able to distinct the dark, cruel sound of the Spanish inquisition versus a day at the beach with your favorite molata......so enjoy the lite lift of 'Claudia' and 'Jazz', CHINA JUMP's lounge/elevator moment! 'Looking forward, thinking back' is an adptation of a Dave Scotland composition 'Kerrie'. I was looking around for something to feature the individual talents of Dave, Phil, Jeremy, Wayne, Jason and remembered this composition from the days when Dave and I used to play it in a three piece rock band. I went to Dave and asked him if he would mind if I used the chord structure but only keep the original opening guitar melody. He was cool with the whole idea so I got Wayne to arrange it in such a way that it would feature solos, in their order: Dave Scotland (guitar), Jason Morphett (Sax), Jeremy Sawkins (guitar), Phil Rigger (trumpet), Jeremy Sawkinks (guitar), Wayne Miller (keyboards) and signs off with Dave Scotland on guitar. Obviouly 'Looking Forward' is the most serious composition on this light detour as each member only had so many bars to highlight their chops. This is a musical side trip for CHINA JUMP, and I hope you'll enjoy it too. Joe Lee.....................Other China Jump Release Available on iTune:BEIJING EXPRESS ..IBERIAN TALES ..

Band Members: I love Brazilians...No, seriously, I really really do. Here is something I came across on Ms Brazil's MySpace page and it made me smile, so, I thought I'd share it with you...............You Know You're Brazilian When... You didn't know anything about bills until you came to the US. You still wear speedos to the beach or pool! You like Guarana better than Coke. If someone tells you to be at a certain place at 1:00 pm, you don't show up until 2:30 or 3:00 p.m. You know who Xuxa and Pele are. Your entire family goes to grandma's house on Sundays for a big family get together....even when you guys see each other everyday. You can name at least 30 soup operas and 10000 actors/actresses. BBQ means steak, sausage, chicken wings, pork, rice, farofa, molho and beer. You are the loudest person in the room. You got a Brazilian flag hanging from your car's rearview mirror. You travel to Brazil and instead of taking a suitcase with all your stuff, you take presents for the entire family, the dog, the neighbor, not to mention the old/used clothes that you take just in case someone needs it. You live in Florida, New York, New Jersey, or Massachusetts (there are exceptions of course). You leave your house spotless when you have people coming over. An ideal woman is a woman with small breasts and a big butt. You understand & speak Spanish, but when you say a word in Portuguese no one understands you. You can dance. Your jokes are always about Portuguese people. You take soccer too seriously. You go to a birthday party, and you can't leave until you take that piece of cake home. You know what Capoeira is. You know a lot about Samba and Pagode. You..ve studied the history of almost every country. You eat rice and beans at least 7 days a week. Your breakfast consists of milk and coffee, bread with butter, and a piece of cake. Everyone thinks you're everything but Brazilian. You know who Os Trapalhoes, Turma da Monica, Zico, Caetano Veloso, Tom Jobim, Elis Regina, Ronaldinho, Jo Soares, Cazuza, Gilberto Gil, Silvio Santos, Roberto Carlos, Ayrton Senna, amd Carmem Miranda are. You go to a bar and ask for salgadinhos with guarana. You are so used to corruption that nothing surprises you anymore. You know how to play dominoes and cards. You dont care about race or color. And once you come to the US, you realize what racism means. You have a sense of fashion. You wear slippers..a lot! You know how to play volleyball and handball. You're always taking pictures everywhere you go. You know what it's like to buy liquor without an ID. You know how to party, and if the party isn't over until after 5am...its not a party! Any holiday...being it official or not, is an excuse to stay home from work and take a week's vacation. You know what feijoada and pave are. Your favorite drink is Caipirinha. You dress up to go to the supermarket. You spend an entire day at the beach. You are too friendly. You're proud to be Brazilian...
