Mika Yoshida lives in Amakusa Island,Kumamoto prefecture ,Japan. She has had solo recital in New York(Carnegie ZANKEL Hall 2007,Carnegie Weill Recital Hall 2001,2004),Tokyo(2001,20 03,2006),Fukuoka,Kumamoto(every year) Atlanta,Budapest,Toronto,Frensberg and St.John’s,Newfoundland.She studied with Russell Hartenberger at the University of Toronto and graduated with an advance catificate in performance.She furthered her studies with John Wyre,whom she considers a major influence and inspiration.She has devoted herself to marimba performance and musical studies under the strong influence of the NEXUS.She has collaborated with Steve Gadd ,Richard Stoltzman,Eddie Gomez, Thomas Stacy,Kakraba Lobi,Vega string quartet,Peter John Stoltzman,William Ransom and Stomu Yamashita.She has recorded two CD:Mitsue(1998) and Marimba Phase(2003). Steve Reich’s CD TripleQuartet includes her arrangement and performance of “Tokyo/VermontCounterpoint”.She premired JohnWyre’s Moonlight for marimba and orchestra with the Kyushu Symphony, and Bill Douglas’s marimba concerto with the Kumamoto Symphony Orchestra.She also serves as the Artistic Director of Island Magic,the Amakusa International Art& Music Fest ival.
