Taught himself composing and harmony, creating this way, his own outstanding style, outside all known genres. His works are based on pop melody with beautiful sound effects. He mainly works on music for TV commercials, animation and TV programs. He also arranges and produces songs for artists in a wide range of genres. Lately he is dedicated to creating solos for piano and the reed organ. He actively participates in collaborations with violin, harpsichord, flute, shakuhachi (Japanese bamboo flute), and ocarina. He has released two solo albums, ''Luzsombra'' and ''Raz e del''.

上畑正和のメロディーは聴いていると誰でも その情景が目に浮かんでくる。 人によっては過去の恋愛や初恋の情景かもし れない。 深い森の中で深呼吸をしてあたりを見回わす と突然開けている空間かもしれない。ピアノ 本来の美しい響きを極限まで追求する姿勢は 、 逆に聞く人を優しく包んでくれる。 そんな不思議な感覚を体験させてくれる。
