Born in Tokyo, Japan, Marié started tickling the ivory at the age of three. Since then, she has been trained in classical and contemporary piano performance in Japan, Italy, Germany, and the US. She has studied composition with Gerald Levinson, and recently launched into the world of improvisation under the mentorship of Myra Melford. Her main interest is to explore the cross-street between composition and improvisation. Also, she enjoys integrating her interest in traditional folk musics around the Medeterrenean, particularly the Balkans, into her compositions.
Her past projects in San Francisco include the Japonize Elephants, Al-FerrAbe, the Lark, Smirkers, Ramon and Jessica, and Four Flea Circus. In Napoli, Italy, she also has performed and recorded with: Marzouk Mejiri, Gnut, Barbara Domi, and Daniele Sepe.
While returning and residing in Osaka, Japan in 2006-2008, Marié recorded and performed with various Japanese musicians in the area, including: Ett, Midori Hirano, Takaoka Daisuke, Kameda Shinji (Hao). Also co-lead a project called â€åœ°ä¸æ± (chichuike)" with Kameda Shinji (saxes, Hao), featuring Azumi Miyata (bass, Hakka Happa), Uekko (guitar, zahha torte), Takoka Daisuke (tuba), Watanbe (drums), Igaki Akiko (vln, tayutau), Ikeda Ayuko (percussions), Seto Nobuyuki (cl, Freylekh Jamboree), Shimomura Yoko (voice, hakka happa), Charles Ferris (tpt, Four Flea Circus).
