She started playing Piano at the early age of 3. After starting to play classical Miki developed a strong passion for the sounds and harmony of the Psalterion which is an ancient harp stringed instrument from Greece. She began to do collaborative work with a number of musicians from different genres there by diversifying her musical understanding. Her personal world of “sensual sound waves” is a eclectic combination of both beautiful classic form coupled with the freedom of modern experimental music. The creative energy manifested from these new environmental sessions provides unlimited possibilities in a uniquely different manner. The original sounds of Miki..s Psalterion can be found on UA..s album “SUN” as well as in film collaborations with the modern Chinese artist Kin Taii. She has also work with international music producers such as Seigen Ono and Gota Yashiki. If someone asked “Who is Miki Sakata?” She can not be summed up in a single word. Nor a single category. This is not a bad thing or a week point by any means. On the contrary this is one of her many attributes. She is not the traditional classical pianist with academic training nor is she a pop “healing music” pianist. Miki performs classic to Jazz, Rock to club music, and traditional to contemporary. She serenades throughout these many genres with a distinct individuality and personal sound,her musical flexibility is an intrinsic part of her personality. Performing not only at concert type venues but also in night clubs, art galleries, afternoon cafes, and even at the beach. Anywhere you can find a piano you can find Miki Sakata. Playing a diverse scope of instruments raging from the guitar,to the Erhu (a two stringed Chinese instrument played with a bow) as well as the Wadaiko (Japanese drums)and the Shakuhachi (Japanese flute) she excels in her sound, while her passion for the Psalterion has lead to her to be one of the only Japanese musicians to master this unique instrument. She is able to not only exhibit expertise with ballads that respect traditional scores but also show a charmingly improvisational spirt.
