PENNY ARCADE

About Me

IN THE BEGINING....
One late night in a local bar, during the long hot summer of 2001, five bored boys and a girl, busy doin' nothing, got together to form what eventually would become Penny Arcade.
The bands first "rehearsal" was just too out of hand even for youngsters who like their rock'n'roll raw. Afterwards the girl-drummer, who was just too wasted (which in this connection says quite a lot), was sacked and the man of action, guitar player Daniel Wolfbrandt, took place behind the drums. Soon second guitarist, ex-Roadrunner, Joakim Dimberg who was busy with other projects left (or got fired, it depends on who you ask). Ex-Stroller Martin Karlsson picked up the rhytmguitar and the first line-up was set to go. The morons in the band were at the time: Thomas Gustavsson (leadguitar), Jonas Kroon (bas, harmonica & vocals), Martin Karlsson (rhytmguitar & vocals) and Daniel Wolfbrandt (drums & harmonica).
The summer went by and after several hot and dazed nights in a basement in Orebro City the foursome went in to the studio to record two songs for the Strollers compilation "Strollers....and beyond" (never to be released, though). The songs were the Dolls-inspired "It might just be alright" and their garagey party-anthem "I know what they say".
The group kept writing new material but changes was yet to come. The situation in the band was pretty tense and fights and arguments occurred on time on regular basis. Eventually the streetfighting drummer left the group during the recording of their second promo-record, partly to have more time over for his true passion, kickboxing. The recording was nevertheless completed and included the songs: "Contradictions No.1", "Get out", "Charlie's alright" and "Just for tonight (oh my my)". The recordings took place in their smelly, water damaged basement and are indeed pretty raw-sounding but still great.
The drum kit was now taken over by Joel Mogren and the current line-up was a fact.
The boys in the band have sort of different backgrounds but consider their music as an obstinate mixture of straight rock'n'roll, rhytm&blues, garage, punkrock and pop. They're not very keen on name-dropping (-"It's the Penny Arcade sound!") but at their all-night parties your likely to here stuff like: Rolling Stones, Roky Erickson, Sonic´s Rendevouz Band, Graham Parker, Flamin' Groovies, Velvet Underground, Kiss, Bob Dylan, Muddy Waters, MC5, Pat Boone and so on.
Penny Arcade has recently recorded three brand new songs: "Amnesia blues", "Dollface" and "Bake a cake" and seems pretty pleased with the result (Supergreat! if you ask me).
After getting their dirt together they're now ready to take over the world. Well, you've been warned....

Band Members: The Boys:

Thomas Gustavsson (leadguitar & vocals): Often talked about as the "mystery man". No one really knows were he comes from and little is known about his past. He likes his rock to roll and is the only member with a car (driverlicense also for that matter). Has a serious obsession for the Rolling Stones and "Keef" especially. Owner of the infamous party-crasher Charlie. Ex- Psycho Starfuckers.

Joel Mogren (drums & sax): Speaks only when it's necessary. Raised on punkrock and puts the b to the beat. Makes his own wine and has beaten up a famous Swedish director. Likes old movies and football. According to a certain basplayer he's the one who gets the best looking girls. Further information unknown.

Jonas Kroon (bas, vocals & harmonica): A.k.a "Prince Valium". The city's tallest basplayer (2.06) who can't enter a room without breaking anything. Born and bread with the Blues and former leadsinger of the High Plain Drifters. Bob Dylan and Velvet Underground are sacred in his 12m2 apartment which includes seven aquariums and one mattress. Furnished with a big heart and a bad mind.

Martin Karlsson (guitar, vocals & occasional harmonica): Ex-garage rock star from the Strollers who after ten years traded his drums for a guitar. A hypochondriac with a taste for beer, cigarettes and kebabpizza. Consider himself well-mannered but some people thinks of him as the opposite. A young man with many faces whose ambition is to be the perfect clone between Ron Ashton and Graham Parker.
