SHOW-YA 寺田æµåã®æ—¥æœ¬å…¨å›½ãƒãƒ¼ãƒ‰ãƒãƒƒã‚¯åŒ–計画 「GYUWEEN!ã€In 1982, SHOW-YA won the grand prix of best female band sponsored by Yamaha Music which led them to a major debut from Toshiba EMI in 1985 which brought them into the limelight as the most talented female band ever in Japan.
Because their first and second albums were mixed at legendary Abby Road Studio in London, they had the opportunity to play in front of a foreign audience at The Marquee club in their early days.Andy Johns, one of the most renowned and respected producers in rock history, known for his work on records by artists ranging from Led Zeppelin and The Rolling Stones to Van Halen and Rod Stewart, produced 2 out of 8 albums.
Their both 5th album â€Immigration†and 6th album “Glamour†were mixed by Andy in Los Angeles and performed at Roxy Theatre as the first US appearance."Genkai Lovers" was their breakthrough single which sold over 300.000 copies. Moreover, their 7th album "Outerlimits" sold a total in excess of 600.000 copies; ranked top 4th on the chart. Other than playing shows in world famous “Budokanâ€, SHOW-YA produced and presented annually “NAON NO YAON†music festival which featured all female musicians from 1987.Furthermore, they have performed in foreign cities such as London, L.A. Moscow, Mexico City, etc, and the band accomplished a splendid achievement of glory as featured artist on the front page of Los Angeles Times in 1990.
Altogether they have released total of 11 singles and 8 albums during the period vocalist Keiko remained in the band.Despite their peaked popularity, In February 1991, the lead singer, Keiko Terada departed from the band in February 1991 due to differences in musical direction pursuing a solo career of her own.Half Japanese-American Stephanie Borges replaced the lead singer, after countless auditions, to make a new start for the 2nd chapter of SHOW-YA. They were invited to North Korea as a guest of the country in June of the same year. Concerts were held at Art Theater for two days and made such an historic impact and epoch-making occurrence in North Korea that most of the Japanese media covered the event. The band spent some time in Los Angeles recording and playing shows constantly, however activity as SHOW-YA ended in September 1998. Each member parted and went their separated ways pursuing individual activities. In the meantime, Keiko released her first solo single “Paradise Wind†as the theme of NHK (Japan Broadcasting Corporation) for Barcelona Olympics. Up to this date, she has 7 singles, 5 albums and 4 mini-albums released. Along with her musical activities, she performed in theater for “Rock ’n’ Jam Musical†in 2004.SHOW-YA returned with the original members in 2005 to celebrate their 20th anniversary, all set to rock the world once again. With the release of their live DVD, "20th ANNIVERSARY†the return of SHOW-YA Festival " in 2006, followed by another live DVD in 2007 SHOW-YA proves once more to the world that they can rock hard like no other female band with a unique style of their own in relation to Led Zeppelin, AC/DC and Deep Purple with a touch of Janis Joplin on vocals.
