About Me

Scaanjoon (pronounced SKEN JUNE) is Manx Gaelic for ghost. I decided in August 2004 to begin work in writing and recording an album of contemporary Manx folk songs based on themes contained in traditional Manx songs, fairy tales and folklore. Creepy Folk Come Down is the fruits of this labour and is a folk album with a very modern feel, that tips its hat to the past. It also adds a new dimension to the folk song repetoire of the Isle of Man by adding a dark twist. The album should be available for down load in mid September from Running Media and to buy locally from the end of September. (I will keep you posted on this!). I have used the Manx National Song Book Vols 1 and 2 combined as a great source of inspiration and can recommend it as a excellent tome to add to your music library. The distinctive artwork on the front cover comes from a fantastic local artist called Eben Carswell who is based in Studio 42 in Port St Mary. I have also been greatly assisted by the marvellous DAM studios who have provided the rest of the artwork; mastered the CD and recorded the song Creepy Folk Come Down for me. Most of the CD was recorded in my home studio on days off from work, so it was a refreshing change on the final track to go to a whistles and bells studio and work with some other musicians for a full day!. The record is a solo project, but it also includes guest appearances from a bevy of local artists including Gary Salisbury from the Ken Experiment; Paul Salisbury from Gratiz3; Steph Joyce from the YoYo Hearts and Christy D. I also need to give huge thanks to the Manx Heritage Foundation whose support has enabled a fully realised CD. I have already started thinking about the follow up and have 6 songs in various states of completion. I hope you enjoy my music.....Scaanjoon ********NEWS FLASH!!***** Its looking like the album will be available for download on runningmedia.net from the 18th of September and to buy on 2 Ltd Edition CD designs from the 30th of September ************************************************************ ************************************************************ ******************NEWS FLASH******The Cd is available to buy from PETER NORRIS MUSIC in Douglas and STUDIO 42 Port St Mary from the 30th of September!
