About Me

well..
it's my last "teen" year this year, and it also happens to be the age that i've been waiting to be for a long long time... i don't really know why, but i always thought 19 would be an awesome age to be. random, i know, but i am very random, and well, random is good ;). so it's my dream age, and i have a feeling that it's gonna be a great year. so far, it has been amaaaziing.
i was born and raised in japan, and yokohama is my hometown. i love it there, and i miss it always whenever i'm away. now, i live in beautiful montreal, canada. it's the first time living away from family, and i kind of put myself here in a random spur. i knew no one in montreal, and i decided why not? and moved here for university. i'm so content with the decision i made, as i have met some wonderful, irreplaceable people here.
so i spent my childhood years in a few homes in yokohama, and we settled into our home where my parents are now, about 5 or 6 years ago. it's on top of a hill, has a excellent view and a really home-y atmosphere that makes it so welcoming. and 2 years ago, when i opened the door to my house after a night of partying on my birthday, i saw a guitar and an amp carefully set right in middle of the hallway. it was my birthday present from my dad that year. and after a few months, i started to really get into it and i wrote my first song shortly after.
actually, music has always been part of my life. when i was 3 i started to play the violin, which i pursued till i was 13. i also played piano for a few years, but it wasn't for me. i stopped playing the piano and the violin when i discovered my passion for the saxophone. oh how i love the saxophone! it all started when i was in 5th grade. our school had an obligatory music class where we had to be in a concert band and play an instrument of our choice. when it was my turn to choose an instrument, i really had no clue what i wanted to play. and i saw that all the others in the class were choosing flute, clarinet, trumpet, and percussion. so i decided to choose.. the saxophone!! ..and this was definitely one of the best random choices i have made in my life. i quickly fell in love with this instrument. (and i still absolutely love it!) so as i got older i joined the jazz band, and the honor band, ensembles, and anything that let me play the saxophone i joined. and when i was 17, that was when i had my first big gig with the band super goooooood. this was august 28th 2005. i still remember that feeling when i got on stage. with all the lights. and the audience. it was phenomenal. so i guess that was when i really started to want to perform in front of people and to share my music with others.
so here i am, in the library (avoiding studying for my mid-term), writing this little story about myself, about to put up some new songs that i recorded this summer.
so. this is me, arisa. loving life, loving change, loving having homes in different countries, having great friends and family, my two doggies, being at the beach, surfing at 4a.m., playing music till the sun comes up, shopping for shoes & hats, traveling, different languages, loving fooooood, keeping busy, going out. the list goes on an on...
so anyways.
thanks for stopping by, and i hope you enjoy my music!
love,
arisa safu
